Ghana Prisons and Zoomlion Ghana Receive Awards

 Planet Three Peace Programme (P3PP) has presented two awards to Ghana Prisons Service and Zoom lion Ghana Limited as part of their appreciation to them.

Zoom lion and Ghana Prisons were among the security services that collaborated with P3PP in a clean-up exercise at Nima as part of the activities to mark the International Peace Day.

Planet Three Peace Programme (P3PP), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to peace promotion aims to secure peaceful democratic stability globally with particular focus on Africa and Asia as well as discourage any activity that can affect the peace of mankind and the environment.

In an address at the ceremony, the Board Chairman of P3PP, Professor Dominic Kofi Agyemang, applauded the waste management measures instituted by Zoom lion such as the formation of Zoil to cater for the coast line, waste management services in all districts nationwide, organisation of waste management workshops and the provision of technical advice to the government, among other services across the African Continent.

Prof. Agyemang called on the management of zoom lion and government to enhance modern and effective waste management and recycling techniques to raid the city and the nation of filth.

He also advised Zoom lion to apply the waste segregation system in all communities, schools, market places, shopping malls, and institutions to aid in the recycling process of rubbish which can solve 70 per cent of the lack of land and field site problems which zoom lion have been facing.

Prof. Agyeman promised to provide support in a proactive way by intensifying education and the formation of environment movements in schools and communities to sensitise them on the various measures of waste management as well as tips on the global warming phenomenon to mitigate problems associated with flooding.

He indicated that P3PP will visit the prisons in the coming year to establish peace clubs to promote the culture of peace through education, rehabilitation and empowerment.

Prof. Agyeman said the objectives of the programme are to ensure that prison inmates detach themselves from the stigma attached to ex-convicts, to empower prisoners to become responsible citizens and be accepted back into the society.

He expressed the hope that the Prisons Authority and other stakeholders will collaborate with them in making the culture of peace a reality among the prisoners after they have served their sentences.
For his part, the Director of Administration, Zoom lion, Mr. Emmanuel Okomeng, applauded P3PP for the initiative in keeping the environment clean and ensuring that there is peace in the nation.

Mr. Okomeng pledged to put up their best in promoting a healthy environment and building a better and healthy nation.

In his remarks, the C.S.P of Prison Service, Mr. S. A. Akolbire, expressed his profound gratitude to P3PP for the programmes outlined towards the welfare of inmates and their rehabilitation, and pledged to give their maximum support to the P3PP initiative. 

Mr Akolbire urged the community to embrace ex-convict back into the society and not to discriminate against them.
